Climatic Changes in Developing Countries
The impacts of climate change are already being experienced across the globe. While climate change will affect everyone, it is expected to have a disproportionate effect on those living in poverty in developing countries. According to the reports global average surface temperature has increased by 0.6°C during the 20th century, and is predicted to increase by 1.4 to 5.8°C between 1990 and 2100. Average precipitation has increased over tropical latitudes by about 2 to 3% throughout the 20th century, and on average has decreased by about 3% in the sub-tropics. These changes are leading to adverse environmental impacts.
The vulnerability of developing countries to climate change is generally due to poverty and because of the reason that livelihoods are highly dependent on climate-sensitive resources. In order to control these climatic change two approaches are needed, mitigation and adaptation. Mitigation mean actions that tackle the causes of climate change, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adaption mean actions that minimize the consequences of actual and expected changes in the climate. These approaches are inherently interlinked. Due to poverty it is not easy to implement these approaches in developing countries. But there are various ways by which these approaches can be implemented to its full extent. By improving social, economic and technical resilience and increasing flexibility within systems developing countries may gain adaptive capacity for sustainable development. Another way of implementing adaption is building on traditional coping mechanisms and stimulating adaptation efforts through awareness. Communities that rely on natural resources are developing methods to cope with environmental change for generations. So, in order to conserve our climate we need to take strict implementation policies and mechanism.
